The Mark of Zorro

This week I got to see another mission site that is new to me, San Pedro y San Pablo. Chris and I built a house--our last one in J-Town for the summer--with a group of 5 from Arlington Heights, IL. Genaro told us that it was waaaay far away which gave us the impression that it is in the middle of nowhere, but it's really only like 5 minutes (and 8 speed bumps) past Mision Martin Lutero, on Calle Zorro. Currently there is no regular ministry but Pastor Hernandez goes out there when he can--he hopes to make his visits more frequent but is in need of additional funding--and our eventual hope is to build them a church building. It would go on the empty lot next to where we were building, and would cost $6000-$6500 to purchase the land plus $700-1000 to secure the ownership rights above and beyond the construction cost.

Here are some of my pictures from the week...enjoy!

The actual mission site is currently that nice looking gray building in the center of the picture.

The pastor from the group really liked the view through the framed wall.

Yay for weather phenomena we do NOT have in MO...

Drilling through the rafters to run electric gets sawdust all over you! P.S. I also drilled through the studs but I accidentally got a little excited and drilled a hole through the doorframe!

Genesis is the granddaughter of the woman we built for. She actually lives in the house where the mission is housed, but she and her brother Josue were around the site all week.

Chris and Jason's soda bottles are forever going to be a part of Consuelo and Jesus's house.

Micah and I disagreed slightly on the what the outcome of the All-Star game on Tuesday should be...

The group outside their completed house.

We finished the 2nd coat of mud yesterday by lunch and then went to the market yesterday afternoon. That had been the goal all week because Chris and I are leaving later this afternoon for Chihuahua City (about 5 hrs. south of here via charter bus) and so had no intention of crossing the border to finish the house today. We're going to interpret for a MOST Ministries eyeglass clinic that's going to be held at one of YLM's mission sites down there, headed up by Pastor Martin and Blanca Tovar. I'm a little nervous but mostly incredibly excited to see more of Mexico and yet another mission site that will be new to me--and be out of cell phone service for a week! Keep our safe travel in your prayers!

Until next time, blessings!

Yup, gotta love the dust tornados. Still kinda fired up about the allstar game too because I lost the bet. I did like that mission site, hopefully it is able to make it. great people out there. Don't worry about drilling through the door frame, can't even tell it's there anymore. Should have taken a picture of that.

hey, Erin! Sounds like so much fun -- every week is a bit different, but with a lot of routine, also. As for the all-stars, all I can say is wait til next year. One of these days we'll get ya!! Have fun in Chi City, and Ken and I should see you about next Tuesday evening! Hope you guys have some work planned for me, at least for a day or two.
Blessings and safe travel, Carol (umh, the bride's mom!)
